He was cripplingly obese and wasn’t the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree either.
Sam was a big boy. He loved snacks, especially cookies and chips, and he didn’t like sports or running around much. At school, some kids teased him because he was slower in gym class and found math problems difficult. Sam sometimes felt left out and wished he could be like the other kids.
One day, the teacher announced a team project: each group had to build a model bridge using only paper and glue. At first, no one wanted Sam in their group. But then Mia, the kindest girl in class, said, “Let’s give Sam a chance. Maybe he has good ideas.”
During the project, Sam listened carefully and watched what everyone was doing. When the bridge started to fall apart, Sam had an idea. He remembered how he built tall towers with playing cards at home. “What if we fold the paper like this?” he suggested, showing them a strong shape. The team tried it, and the bridge worked! It was the strongest bridge in the class.
Everyone cheered, and Sam smiled. He realized he didn’t need to be the fastest or the best at math. He just needed to try and share his ideas. From that day, Sam felt more confident, and the other kids saw him in a new light.
This story encourages empathy and shows that everyone has unique strengths, even if they aren’t always obvious at first.
